Ice Dundee School programme

Ice Dundee Community

Ice Dundee Community is a local charity aiming to raise participation in ice skating amongst young people who would normally not get this opportunity. .

We offer primary and secondary Learn to Skate school programmes in and around Dundee. We want to get as many young people as possible active and enjoy the many benefits of sport. All barriers such as transportation and skating fees are removed as everything is paid for by the charity Ice Dundee (Community).

Primary school programme

We launched our primary school programme in 2021 and have so far taught more than 3500 kids how to skate. Every Monday and Tuesday we are taking primary kids onto the ice and teach them the basics of skating. The most important thing for us is to teach them in a fun and interactive way. All costs are paid for by the charity to remove all barriers for the kids to partake in ice skating. The feedback has been glowing and the teachers noticed a rise in the kids self confidence, endurance and improved concentration after the skating lessons. In the future we hope to include even more primary schools in the programme.

Secondary school programme

We rolled out our secondary school programme in 2019 which was also the start of Ie Dundee (Community). This programme is designed for teenage girls to get more active as numbers showed there is a specific need in this age group amongst girls. The girls have a weekly session on the ice and  receive a lesson from one of the performance skaters. It was really important for us that the girls had someone to look up to and connect with, a female role model. So far we have put around 1000 teenage girls through the programme.
